Scholarship Information and Application Instructions
Eligibility:
High school senior from the Bay Area of Houston, Texas who has run cross country or track and will be attending an accredited college or university.
Award:
Two scholarships will be awarded. Each scholarship will be $2000. Bay Area Running Club (BARC) will send the scholarship funds directly to the colleges or universities on behalf of the winners. Half will be sent in the Fall semester 2026 and half in the Spring 2027.
Application:
- One page resume of the applicant’s high school career, including academics and extracurricular activities. ONLY 1 PAGE. Include name of high school and coach, which college you will attend and anticipated major.
- An essay, 1-3 pages, demonstrating your running journey, how it began, your high school team experience, and your running intentions for the future. Note if you’ll be running on your college team.
Selection Criteria:
The selection is subjective, but will favor individuals who can demonstrate one or more of the following:
- Running is a valuable part of his/her life.
- Demonstration of giving back to the running community.
- Intention of making running an aspect of his/her future life.
- Solid academics
- Financial need
- It is not necessary to be a member of our club. However, BARC membership is advantageous when the voting is close, so note BARC membership and/or volunteering with BARC races.

Selection Process:
A panel of Bay Area Running Club members will choose the scholarship recipients.
Presentation:
Once the selection process has been completed, the winners will be notified and invited to our club meeting on Monday, May 11th to be recognized.
